Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
